River Day 05/23/2011

Even though we've had a few weeks of good weather on Mondays lately, this week it really felt like summer's just around the corner. Even though there was rain all Sunday night, Monday evening turned out great, with clear blue skies and temps around 80. We didn't really need a fire this week, but what's a River Day without one (probably the best on the river anyway).

Ted, Jay, Tim and I (Mark) all made it down this week. We fished for the better part of the evening; well, most of us anyway. Ron was also down this week doing some repairs to the temporary patch on top of the camper. During the rains Sunday night a little water got through, so he was trying to get that sealed up. That brought on some brainstorming on how to take care of the camper issue at the least amount of cost. Time will tell how the planning goes.

Duwan (sp?) has started a new landscaping project, trying to enlarge the flat space he created in his yard last year. Right now it's just a pile of rock and dirt, with a few logs thrown in, but I'm sure that'll be changing over the next few weeks.

A great pre-summer kick-off night at the river.

River Day 05/16/2011

Jay, Tim and I made it down to the river this week. Temps have cooled a bit since the last 2 weeks, and I think it dropped about 10 degrees in the few hours we were there - from near 60 to near 50. It felt more like a fall day than a late spring day! It did sprinkle rain a little while we were there, but not enough to run us off.

All three of us fished for most of the evening, and we were all catching (not just casting). As the evening went on we made regular trips up to the fire to warm up. With the cool air and the wind, a toboggan would have been nice, or at least ear muffs.

The camp owners have done a little landscaping and flower planting, so everything is really looking nice at the camp. In the one picture, we weren't sure if we were looking at a small grave or a morbid flower bed. They even have one flower planted in a tree stump.

The camper has also been moved back to the camp while they decide how to handle the repairs. It has a temporary patch on top now to keep the weather out, but I'm not sure how that's going to hold up. It was done with chip board and silicon and looks like it's dipping in the middle, probably from the lack of a truss underneath. But at least they get to use it for now.

Despite the chilly evening, it was a great night to be on the river; great friends, good fishing, nice place to be.

Pictures From 5/09/11

These are a few more pictures from last Monday night.... By the way, we did have the best fire on the river.... and Ted is hard to see in that one picture from the previous post, is that smoke from the fire or from Ted's stogie ??

River Day May 9th 2011

This is a pretty late post.... been a busy week, but better late than never. This week’s post is going to be all about the pictures. In a word, the afternoon and evening was just about perfect! The weather couldn't have been any better, temperatures in the mid to upper 70s and as you can see by the pictures it was beautiful. Jay, Ted and I (Tim) were able to make it down tonight. Jay and I fished most of the time.... we did pretty good.... didn't get as many as last week. All in all it was a very good night. I try to put these pictures in a layout that makes sense, however I'm never successful at it.

LEAVE SOME OF THOSE FISH JUST IN CASE THEY MAKE IT TO THE COAL RIVER. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL, THATS STILL THE BEST FIRE ON THE RIVER!

River Day 05/02/2011

Everyone was back in town this week and able to make it down to the river. Things have really "greened" up over the last week. Between the strange wind storm from last week and this week's River Day, the river had risen to flood stage and then receded again. Ron has also cut down the offending tree that the limb fell from last week (the one that damaged the camper).

The fish were still biting good this week and between the three of us that were fishing (Jay, Tim and I) we must have caught 50-60 fish, with Jay probably catching the majority.

Ted spent most of the evening cleaning up the latest flood debris. Even though it didn't all get burned up, at least it's all piled up in and around the fire pit. I'm sure that next week we'll take care of whatever didn't burn already. One of the benefits of flooding is all the wood left behind to burn, and this week was no exception.
