River Day 05/24/2010

With the exception of about a 5 minute rain shower, we had great weather this week at the river. The temperature was nice, probably mid-70's. In the picture you can just make out the rain coming in over the mountain.

After the heavy rains last week, the river level is finally starting to settle back down. It also wasn't nearly as muddy as it has been.

Jay and I did a little fishing this week. When I left we had caught about 15 between us, but Jay was still going strong so I'm sure his number was much higher.

Ted was there also this week and he spent a little time finding, then starting a new walking stick. He's making it for someone else who wanted a shorter stick with a rounded top.

Finally, it looks like the building has been completely finished. Ron finished the door over the last week (with a little help from the locals). He's finally able to lock his stuff up again, and I'm sure he's happy about that.

River Day 05/17/2010

Jay, Tim and I enjoyed River Day this week.

The water was high and muddy due to the heavy rains we've had the last two days, so we weren't sure how the fishing was going to be. All three of us tried when we first got there, but Jay was the only one catching anything; I think he ended up with 3 or 4.

We had some rain and thunder for a while so we hung out in and around the building. After the rain died down Jay had to leave and I decided to try a few more casts before leaving. I'm not sure what made the difference, but all of a sudden the fish were biting.

I caught about a dozen (while Tim dug up a few helgrammites (sp?)), including this nice one in the picture.

Despite the weather it was a great night at the river.

River Day 05/10/2010

Nice weather at the river this week with temps. in the upper 60's. Everyone was there but Pat, and everyone fished but Ted.

As you can see in the photo, Ron's building is nearly back together. If he can just get that rectangular door in the slightly off-kilter opening, then he's got it licked!

Every thing has really "greened up" over the last couple of weeks and it looks like summer is just around the corner. The weekly fires are already getting a little smaller, but I'm sure they're probably still the best one's on the river.

I'm not sure if the next picture shows it or not, but the eddy pool in front of the camp is the temporary home of what appears to be about a billion tadpoles. Ted says that's a good sign...some of us think that's a lot of bull...frogs. Maybe he's right. At any rate it's neat to see so many in one place.

Monday May 3rd...

Tonight Jay and Tim were the only ones able to make it down... spent some time talking trash about the guys that couldn't make! (figure they do it when we can't make it!) After getting that out of our system we helped Dawan(spelling??) load some wood for Ron. Dawan cut down a limb that was "blocking his view" of the river, so he cut it down.... nice little load of wood.

Did some fishing... Yes I did some fishing!! Got my license on-line yesterday and Jay brought some gear down for me to borrow. Got one on my first three casts!! First fish I've caught in about 35 years!! Sorry, no pictures...got lazy with the camera. Finished off with seven, and Jay caught about twelve more... so it was a good night. Need to start buying some fishing stuff now! Did somebody say "road trip to Cabela's!!"

Had a lot of fun fishing... looking forward to doing more next week!

No pictures to post!!
