Prayer Meeting 01/29/2021

In true prayer meeting tradition, we had a short moment of silence to remember our friend in Arkansas, also a one time River Day participant (and by that I mean ONE time).  He was a little jealous of our get togethers, so I told him we'd remember him in the benediction.  Here's to you, Mike!

As you can see, the regular crowd all made it this week at Jay's: Ted, me, Jay, and Tim (in order of the pic).  Another bitterly cold snowy day in southern WV this week.  Winter has truly kicked in.

You know how a person always says "I need to write that down so I'll remember it"?  Yeah, I need to start doing that.  I keep thinking there was something I wanted to mention in this post, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.  I'm sure it was funny though, because we laughed a LOT.  If anyone remembers, please feel free to pitch in.

The meeting did turn musical at some point and I played DJ for the group.  And yes, I did take requests.  Safe to say we have a wide musical interest among the group.

It's nights like these that make you realize how blessed you are to have friends like these.

Editing post to add a picture from Ted - thanks Ted!

River Day 1/25/21

Wow! It's hard to beleive that this is the last Monday/River day of January and Tim, Ted, and I did get together and we found ourselves finishing a project from last Prayer Meeting.
We found out that we needed to replace the capacitor and That task got completed on Tuesday, and yes it works!!! Folks you really need to follow the Blog to understand what the project was. We did miss Mark but sometimes other stuff has to be put first, and thats why we each had a cold one for you. It's been alot of good times this month and I'm looking forward to more of it in February with all Rivertarians..

Prayer Meeting 01/22/2021

We decided to do something a little different this week: take a picture and get into a project.  The picture turned out great (thanks Ted!), but we didn't get too far with the project.  Lots of serious thought went into it though.

Ted, Tim, Jay and I got together at Jay's on a cold afternoon for the usual Friday session.  And of course there was the usual (or unusual) conversations and laughter.  Good defense for otherwise stressful times.

The weather wasn't bad, but much colder temps were being forecast for the night (18 degrees or so).  I was already looking forward to my nightly walk when I left Jay's.

We did put in a little planning for an upcoming field trip.  Looking forward to that.

Always great making more memories with these guys.

River Day 01/18/2021

Looks like we're making more posts than we're taking pics, or we just didn't have anything picture worthy this week.  Oh well, we still had a River Day, even without the pics.  The usual group was present this week at Jay's: Jay, Tim, Ted and myself.  While it was nice and toasty in the shop, outside was another story: a few inches of snow on the ground and temps just below 30.  My kinda weather.

I tried to make it a point to remember all of the things that we found so amusing in our conversations, but that isn't working out so well.  I do remember that we found plenty to laugh about, just not the "what".  And it was a very light afternoon for me.  Sign of age maybe?  We've talked about recording or videoing our gatherings, but that may or may not be a good idea.

I do recall that we talked about a fishing excursion, which I'm all for.  Can't beat hanging around the river, building a fire, and throwing a line out.  We usually never catch anything quite this early in the year, but practicing is always fun.

As has been the case for 20 years or so, River Day is a great way to start a week, and this week was no different.

Happy River Day to all!

Prayer Meeting/Birthday Celebration 01/15/2021

We had a little snow for this week's Friday meeting - no accumulation (not till Saturday anyway), and the temps were in the upper 20's.  Jay, Tim, Ted and I got together at Jay's to wind down the week.

Sorry we don't have any pics for this week, and we didn't get into any projects (other than talking about home improvement).  Sometimes the best gatherings are those that you simply talk and laugh.  And we did our fair share of both.

Friday was also the birthday of fallen Rivertarian,  David Morgan.  He would have turned 58.  Sometimes it's still hard to believe he's been gone for 5 plus years.  I'm thankful to have shared his birthday with my closest friends.  Sure made the day brighter for me.

Long live the Rivertarians!

River Day 1/11/21

Hello all!! Tim, Ted, and I (J) got together for some river time Monday afternoon spent in Beckley where it was nice and warm in the basement. No pics this post but I want you all to understand that we did have a good time. We spent some of the time discussing the new presidency which happens next week along with wondering what the Hell has happened to our country? Any how laughter is still the best medicine! Till next time I hope all are well and look forward to the end of the week when we can all spend some more time together. Don't forget to get your fishing license, we all need time by the water.

Prayer Meeting 01/08/2021

A few of us were able to get together at Jay's for our Friday "prayer meeting" this week: Jay, Ted and I.  Outside weather was cold and a little snowy (when I got there - don't remember much about the weather on the way home), but it was nice and toasty inside.

As you can tell in the photos, we had a little project for the evening - trying to put a straight edge on a screwdriver that had a broken blade.  I only use it for one job, but the crooked blade made that job a little difficult.  It's good as new now, even if we did whittle it down a bit.

Ok, so we didn't actually grind it down to nothing, but I did notice at one point that it mysteriously appeared on the screwdriver rack on Jay's wall.  A little suspicious.

Anyway, it was retrieved and returned to it's rightful owner.

As always, we had a great afternoon/evening.

River Day 01/04/2021

We've now celebrated the first River Day of 2021, and it was a nice afternoon (as usual).  Tim, Jay, Ted and I got together at Jay's for some deep conversation (about artwork on the street), scheduling the fall camping trip (?), the regular laughs, and a few cold beverages.

We had a few drop-in visits from Christina and Lori, but they didn't stay long (can't blame them).

No activities or projects this week, and no one took any pics.

Might seem kind of boring to some, but I can't think of a better way to spend a Monday afternoon.

Happy River Day to everyone!
