Prayer Meeting 07/30/2021

It's hard to believe but we just celebrated the last Prayer Meeting of July, 2021.  Of course that just means that the fall camping trip is a little bit closer now.

Jay, Ted, Tim and I all got together at Jay's for a relatively short gathering - I think everyone was out by 5 (except for Jay of course).  We had excellent weather for a Rivertarian event - upper 70's with clear skies.

Ted brought over some tomatoes - red and green - all individually wrapped, which Tim and I split up.

I would be committing a serious offense if I didn't show a next morning photo of how I put some of mine to use: fried green tomato BLTs, with the tomatoes being fried in the bacon grease. Yummy.

Hope this gets everyone's appetite going.

Apparaently Tim has been studying up on his entomology, as he correctly identified, of all things, a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly.  When he told us what it was, I called BS, and was quickly shut down after a Google search.  Glad I'm not a gambling man.  I guess you learn names like this when you spend your childhood torturing the poor things.

If you ever get an opportunity to participate in a Rivertarian gathering, you might pick up on some other trivial information (that will serve absolutely no purpose in life, kinda like algebra) such as the breeding cycle of hummingbirds, and how many pounds of poop a person passes each year.  For those out there that think we only talk about stupid stuff when we get together, be assured that we put a lot of research into topics just like these every week.

I hope everyone had a great week!

River Day 07/26/2021

RIP

Well, looks like I'm slacking again with the blog posts - my apologies.  Anyway, Jay, Tim, Ted and I got together this week for a nice evening of porch sitting.  The weather has been great for the last few weeks, with very little rain - sunny and low 80's.  Perfect summertime weather.

If you're a regular reader of the blog you know that there are a couple of emotional events associated with this (past) week in July.  We don't dwell on it, but it's kind of there in the background.  I for one am grateful to hang out with these guys on any occasion, but especially during this time.  We all share a connection concerning this time.  Enough said about that.

I know I didn't take any photos this week, not sure if anyone else did or not.  So the picture I'm posting is one I took at the river on Thursday, July 22.

I hope everyone had as enjoyable River Day as I did.

Long live the Rivertarians!

River Day 07/05/2021

We had great weather for porch sitting this week at Jay's: sunny with temps in the 80's.  Everyone was able to attend - Jay, Tim, Ted, Pat and me.

Not much going on, just hanging out and solving what problems are within our areas of expertise (you can guess how effective that was).

Also not much in the way of photos either, at least none that I'm willing to post, so we'll go with this one of Jay's home-grown.... garlic:

Happy River Day to all!

(also, it should be noted that this post brings us to the same number we made for the entirety of 2020)

Prayer Meeting 07/02/2021

A busy Prayer Meeting for the Rivertarians this week, with a couple of projects going on.  Jay, Tim, Ted and I got together for a pleasant evening at Jay's - good weather, good times, great friends.

Projects are usually reserved for Fridays - kind of an unwritten rule - and even the neighbors got on board.  The folks across the street from Jay's are getting ready for some construction around the house, so they had some material delivered via a pretty big truck (and truck driver!).  Of course we oversaw the whole thing, and even got involved by helping the driver back his rig back onto Park Ave when he was finished.  Obviously we did an excellent job in stopping traffic.  The bad part is, we've now come up with a fun way to put our skills to the test, but that's for another gathering.

Tim sent me this next photo, and I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but it's something you certainly don't see everyday:

Our next project involved the highly technical installation of an eyehook into the top of a birdhouse I put together a few years ago.  I got the big idea that it would look better outside than sitting on top of a bookcase gathering dust.  And just maybe it'll get used.  I had apparently overthought the whole process and was going to involve serious power tools.  Jay, using a much cooler head, talked me off that ledge, and we got it done in about 5 minutes, without having to rearrange his shop in the process.

As always, we had a great time talking, laughing, and enjoying a few cold beverages.  Jay's son William was also around this week and spent a little time with us, along with his son Liam.

Can't wait till the next one.

Prayer Meeting 06/25/2021 - River Day 06/28/2021

Since I've become such a slacker with the blog posts I thought I'd combine the two from this past week - just in time for the next Prayer Meeting.  I couldn't really tell you who attended which session, but all of us were there at one time or another.

I couldn't find any pictures except for the ones I took of Jay's cat last Friday.  He looked pretty chill so I thought he was photo-worthy.

Hope everyone had a good week and look forward to seeing everyone later.
