Prayer Meeting 02/26/2021

Wow, a prayer meeting that everyone was able to attend!  And we have plenty of pictures to memorialize the occasion.  I was the last one to make it, so things were well underway by the time I got there: demolition, repair, fire, surgery, and some kind of ritualistic dance that Tim demonstrated (video at the end) - definitely a full meeting.  The others of course were Jay, Tim and Ted.  And for those expecting the usual weather report, it was a rainy, dreary afternoon.  Not as cold as we've been experiencing - somewhere just under 40 degrees.

So, Ted had an injured mattock/hoe kinda thing that looked brand new but had a busted handle, and he brought it over for a Friday project (which we always love).  Before I arrived the disassembly had already been completed:

Apparently during this phase of the project, we had an injured Rivertarian, and extreme methods were required to save his finger.  Okay, it was a splinter, but it's the same thing.  Please notice the sterile medical facility where the procedure was performed.  The squeamish are advised to turn away here:

This is about where I came in, just in time for the final reassembly of the mattock.  Some adjustments had to be made to get the rubber cap back on, the handle inserted, then the wedge pounded in.  This stage is otherwise known to Rivertarians everwhere as "McGyvering":

Somewhere about here, Tim tried an unorthodox method of seating the head of the tool on the handle.  It wasn't very effective but makes for great video:

As always, we don't really recommend that any of our viewers try this at home.

Finally, what's a Rivertarian meeting without a little fire?  Once again, Jay has the coolest gadgets for the job:

As if all this wasn't enough action for a single evening, Jay and I visited Christina's house for a few minutes to wish Elizabeth a very Happy Birthday, and to score a free beer!

Sorry this post is so long, but it was a stellar meeting.  Thanks to everyone that contributed to the photos, or just for being there.

Long live the Rivertarians!

River Day 2/22/2021

Tim,Ted and I got together for River Day and it was very nice to spend the later part of the day enjoying some good laughs, music, cold ones, and some noise/exhaust form the tractor. It's always nice to have a back up DJ when the main one is unable to play!
The choice of music was not the normal stuff we listen to but it was good. In fact I really have this urge to go fishing!!
Ted is still waiting for his request to be played! As always it's nice to start the week off with a bag out.

Prayer Meeting 02/19/2021

Ted, Jay and I got together at Jay's for this week's end of week meeting.  Winter has definitely reared its head this month; cold temps and wind were the order for the evening.  Glad I had a much shorter walk than Ted.  But at least it wasn't pouring snow.

Part of our discussion was on the strange weather going on in Texas, and people's lack of alternate heating.  As committed Rivertarians, we brought up the ability to heat at least a small area with a good old fashioned Coleman mushroom (catalytic) heater.  We couldn't believe the prices that some people are asking for those on sites like Ebay, which of course led to Jay breaking his out for inspection.

It also turned out to be a nice evening for a couple of rounds of darts, which we haven't done for a bit.  The first game went by fairly quickly, but the second may have gone on for a few days.  Or at least it seemed like it.  Always a good opportunity for some laughs and trash talking.

As usual, our weekly "Prayer Meeting" is a good way to wind down and let off some steam.  Looking forward to next week already!

River Day 02/15/2021

Just Jay, Ted and I this week for River Day, but we still had a great afternoon.  The weather wasn't unbearable, with temps in the upper 30's, but that's due to change (forecast for temps in the teens in 24 hours).  The shop was nice and toasty though.

It was one of those days when one story always seemed to lead to three more, and I had no problem telling them, even with the usual interjections from the crowd.  Sorry Ted, I'll try to curb them next time.  Maybe a story limit is in order?  Could be worse, we could always just stand around with that crowded elevator stare.  Not happenin'.

We didn't get into any projects during the get together, just shared some laughs and cold ones.

The post didn't seem complete without a word from our sponsor.

Hope everyone else had a good River Day!

Prayer Meeting 02/12/2021

Hey readers, another fun filled Prayer Meeting this week at Jay's: Jay, Ted, Tim and I got together, although it was a short one for me.

The afternoon got off to a rocky start when a few people decided that work calls were in order.  I'm still trying to figure out why these people are even thinking about work when there's a prayer meeting.  Someone did not get the memo.

Other than the laughs and good company, we got into a few tape measure hacks.  That's right folks, tape measure hacks.  Look, we'll do nearly anything if it amuses us.  And it did.  Hey, you never know when you might learn something, so it was educational.

Even though I had to cut out a little earlier than usual (for me anyway) it was a great time.  Come to think of it, I don't think there's been any bad times when we've gotten together.

River Day 02/08/2021

With temps around 40 this Monday, I didn't have to zip up my jacket on the walk to Jay's for River Day - the trip home was another subject.  Tim, Ted, and Jay (of course) also made this week's holiday.

There's nothing really special about this pic, but it was the only one taken.  That one ice cube just refused to let go of the can.  This made me think about all the pics involving a Yuengling can in our blog.  I'm thinking that maybe we should start receiving some residual advertisement money.  Wishful thinking.

I was reminded what the one word note (hygiene) from Prayer Meeting meant - friends don't let friends go out with dreadlocks from places they shouldn't grow.  I'm pretty sure a solemn vow was involved.

Apparently I missed the musical portion of River Day, thanks to Logan.  And thanks to Tim for sending the pics!

As usual a great River Day!

Prayer Meeting 02/05/2021

I'll start off by apologizing for the lack of photos in this post.  If you only read this for the pics, you're outta luck.

Tim, Ted, Jay and I all got together for a relatively short prayer meeting this week.  Usually I'm the last to go, but due to a later appointment I had to be on my "best" behavior.

I thought I had a great idea by keeping a note or two of things I wanted to remember for the blog, but the only thing I entered was "hygiene".  And of course now I have no idea why.  Anyone else care to chime in on this one?  We've often thought about recording, or even videoing our sessions, but that may or may not be a good idea.

We didn't get into any projects this go-round, but had a great time talking and laughing (as usual).  We even kicked around the idea of a covert camping trip to Sherwood.  Kind of a winter hide-out.  I believe the idea was appealing to everyone, no matter the weather.

Lori came down with a little treat for us to take home: some homemade apple butter, still warm from the pot.  Haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it's delicious.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

River Day 02/01/2021

Another cold winter day this week for the Monday gathering.  These days it makes me wonder how we survived all those cold evenings at the river, with temps sometimes as low as 5 degrees.  Guess we were a little tougher back then.  I certainly appreciate the warm environment in the shop.  This week there were only 3 of us: Jay, Ted and I.

I needed to give Jay a couple of keys so I decided to clean up my key collection that weighs about 5 pounds.  After lots of finagling (is that a word?) with swapping rings, I'm not sure I left with any fewer than I started with, they're just arranged differently.  Oh well, it was kind of a project.

Thanks for the pic, Ted.

Nothing like a good River Day celebration to get the week started.
