Prayer Meeting 05/28/2021

Just Jay, Ted and I this Friday afternoon for a pre-holiday weekend Prayer Meeting.  The weather was kinda crappy: cooler than earlier in the week and rain on and off.

The weather didn't stop Lori from having the best fire on Franklin Avenue, and probably the best smoke screen in the shop.  It didn't take long to clear out, so we didn't get the whole sauna vibe for very long.

Jay was nice enough to let me mess with the bench vise a little, so I tightened the screws holding the jaws in place.  It didn't really need it, but who doesn't like messing with stuff like that.

We (Ted and I) took a couple of pics of this ugly mug.  He's been hanging around the shop for a while now so he decided to join in the festivities.  Even crushed his own can!  He didn't need to look so smug about it though.

Can't think of a better way to end the week and kick off a long weekend!

River Day 05/24/21

Pat, Jay, Ted and I all made it to River Day this week.  Temps were great (low 80's) with a little rain in the evening.  As usual for this time of year, we spent the majority of the evening on the front porch at Jay's solving absolutely none of the world's problems.  It isn't that we don't have solutions, but nobody wants to hear them.  Too bad.

There was some concern throughout the afternoon for our neighbor Calvin.  He has recently returned home and is in need of all of our prayers.  Please remember him throughout your days.

Not much going on, just enjoying each other's company and a few cold beverages. Oh, and we had a little visitor who decided to take a bath in front of everyone.  No shame.

Happy River Day to all!

Prayer Meeting 05/21/21

We had a full compliment of Rivertarians again for the Friday edition: Jay, Tim, Ted, Pat and me.  It looks like nice weather has finally arrived: we had clear skies and low 80's for nice afternoon on the front porch at Jay's.

As usual, lots of random conversations during the course of the meeting, most of which were held before I got there, so I have no idea what they were.

I do remember the "fake" flower (pictured) and Tim swinging his balls (family friendly video attached), and how everyone is ready for a little camping.

I did take a few pics this week - enjoy!

Please look away if this next part is offensive:

River Day 05/17/2021

River Day brought everyone out this week: Tim, Jay, Ted, Pat, and myself.  The afternoon started out wet, cold and miserable, and ended much brighter (maybe a little fuzzier) and not so wet.  Needless to say we all hung out in the shop at Jay's.

I was reminded by Jay that my previous post left out a topic that we discussed, and I even made a note about: survival tips.  For some reason (Yuengling) we decided that this would be a nice addition to our posts on a semi-regular basis.  We got on the topic of making an "emergency" oil lamp out of a jar, some shoelace, vegetable oil, and a couple of other objects.  This was a project I learned about years ago when taking a FEMA course about nuclear fallout shelters.  I'm not sure how I forgot all of this (Yuengling), but now that it's been brought up, I think it would be a nice project for a Rivertarian get-together.  Stay tuned.

Anyway, as usual it was a great afternoon with friends, sharing stories (when you can actually get one finished), a lot of laughs, and a few cold beverages.

Thanks to everyone for a great River Day! (And thanks to Jay for this week's photo)

Prayer Meeting 05/14/2021

You know that whole thing about lightning striking the same place twice I mentioned a few weeks ago?  Well now it's struck the same place, the same way, not twice, but three times:

I think we may need to check Jay's shoes for glue.

Anyway, Jay, Ted and I got together Friday evening for a much needed gathering of Rivertarians.  We missed you Tim.  The weather was a little on the cool side, so we opted to stay in the shop for the afternoon.

When you're used to something being a certain way for years you don't think much about it.  But Jay made a small change in the shop since the last time I was there that made a big impact on the way it looked in the shop - took down a curtain.  As you can see in the photo, it really made a big difference. Plus he rearranged a few tools on the wall.

The next couple of pics should serve as a stern warning not to leave any personal items behind when you leave a Rivertarian function.  They will be checked out.  And tried on for fit.

And finally, what's a River Day or Prayer Meeting without a group picture of the evening?

Great times as always!

River Day 5/10/2021

First of all the Rivertarians did get together for Prayer Mtg last week on 5/7/2021! And we also spent some time together for River Day. Tim,Ted,Pat and I spent that time in the shop due to the cooler temps and a threat of rain. Not to much going on; and there are no pictures to post but we did the usual stuff that must get done for these get togethers, lots of laughter and just a little bit of adult beverages. We all certainly missed Mark, but life has gotten busy for of us and we just wish that things would settle down on the days we get together, ok every day!! Hope to talk soon ...Jay

River Day 5/3/2021

Hello all! Tim, Ted and I got together this first Monday of May and we enjoyed some time on the front porch until the wind did a little shifting which in turn changed the temp. The older guys started to get cold (Ha,Ha) so we retreated to the shop! In order to help us warm up the conversation become a discussion about "THE BOURBON FESTIVAL" in Kentucky.
The Festival is in a town called Bardstown, and if you try real hard you might be able to find it but I do recommend that you look for it when you have already had a few cold ones. Once again it was great topic, which did not last all that long because we then got talking about my current project.
This old fashioned hand pump use to be along the side of my Father in laws pond.I have started to restore it by removing a couple of layers of paint and at its current status we might just keep it this way? It's always good to get everyones opinion when I have a project out on the work bench. It was a good afternoon! Happy River Day!!

Prayer Meeting 04/30/2021

Sorry for the long delay in posting, but I thought I'd better post the last Prayer Meeting before the River Day meeting (I'm probably cutting it close now).  It really should have been posted Friday night so it would be tallied with April's posts, but I'm not sure about my ability to type following one of our meetings.

So Jay, Ted and I got together at Jay's for the end of week soiree.  The weather was decent, but a little cooler than it had been, and colder temps on the way.

Jay showed off his newest artwork on the workbench - started out as some kind of pizza and this is the results:

And since we were being all artistic, I added a drawing for a model train layout that I'm mulling over:

Ok, so I'm not an artist.

Another great time getting together with a great bunch of guys.
