River Day 01/23/2012
This was the 2nd week in a row that we all made it down to the river for the Monday evening celebration of National River Day! Hope this is the norm for 2012.
We had great, if unseasonal, weather this week. Clear skies and temps in the low 60's. Kind of scarey for January, but we'll take it. I don't think anyone ever had to even put a jacket on. That hasn't happened for a couple of months. With the steady rain we've had over the past few days, the river was rising for a while, then leveled out, and even dropped a couple of inches. A couple of sticks were stuck in the ground at river level a few times to keep track of the changes.
This week it was Tim's turn to get his fishing license, and of course he had to give it a shot for a while. No bites yet, but at least he was fishing. Seems everyone is getting the "fever" for the season to get started, but we've probably got a couple of months to go.
We were able to drag Ron's washer-toss game out this week for a couple of rounds. Once again the Harper boys took the series, but at least Ted and I "showed up" this time. Good to have a little competition going.
Jay brought down a few pallets and some other pieces of wood, and of course some of them helped contribute to the best fire on the river.
Another great night.
