Fall Camping Trip: Oct 19 - Oct 23, 2022

Well folks, another annual fall camping trip is in the books.  And, as usual, it was a great trip!  This year's attendees were: Jay, Tim, Ted, Todd, and myself.

Jay, Tim and Ted arrived at Blue Bend Recreation Area early Wednesday morning to snag some good sites, with electricity even!  They also arrived to some snow flurries and the coldest daytime temperatures.  Todd and I both arrived on Thursday.

The rest of the week couldn't have been more beautiful - clear blue skies every day, temps ranging from upper 20's/lower 30's at night, and from around 50 to mid 60's toward the end. 

Other than a short road trip we hung around the campsite, or at least the campground, for the majority of the time.  Being a little earlier than usual, we saw a few more campers than normal, but no one bothered anyone else (that we know of).  

Below is the standard collection of photos taken over the course of the trip, most from my camera but also some from the other's phones.  I've tried to group them in some kind of chronological order, but I'm sure I'm off on a few of them.

You should be able to figure out the activities, from electrical work, to pumpkin carving, to hillbilly horseshoes, to our favorite - cooking.

After sorting through 183 pictures, these are the ones I selected for this year's post.  As neat as some of the photos are, they do nothing compared to the actual experience of our yearly trip.  As another summer winds down, I'm already looking forward to the next trip.

River Day 10/10/2022

 I finally got to attend River Day at Jay's!  Sorry to miss Ted and Pat, but Jay, Tim and I had a great afternoon.  I have truly missed getting together with these guys and some good times.  Pretty sure I haven't laughed this much for a while.  Oh, the weather was pretty good too; temps in the low 60's with clear blue skies (kind of a requirement to throw that in).

Jay's wife Lori was getting Halloween decorations out this evening, assisted by her girls.  While this was going on Jay and Tim discovered some true relics from the past: 40 year old cassette tapes.  Which of course lead to trying to play them.  So Jay dug out an equally old cassette player/boom box and tried to get them to play.  They may have outlived their usefulness, as we had no sound.

Sounds like an obvious excuse to toss them, but they were re-shelved.  We'll try again in another 40 years and see if we can get them to play.

Since the annual fall camping trip is coming up next week, a good bit of our time was spent talking about the outing.  It's going to be a little earlier this year but should be a great time.

Can't say how much I enjoyed River Day this week, and I hope all of our readers (assuming we still have any) had as much fun celebrating.

Prayer Meeting 08/05/2022

 Jay, Ted and I were able to get together for Prayer Meeting this week - I think that might be two in a row for me, and apparently Ted hasn't been over for about a month.  It's always great hanging out with these guys.  Sorry Tim couldn't make it this week.

It was a pretty nice afternoon with a threat of thunderstorms in the area.  We could hear it rumbling around, and there was a light sprinkle before I left, but the heavy rains held off till later in the evening.

Ted brought some tomatoes from his plants at home, and I took a few pics to show the professional packing job.  No chance these babies were getting banged up in transit.  I appreciate it Ted (enjoyed one for breakfast this morning!).

Not too much else, just enjoyed a few hours of chatting and drinking a cold one or two.

Prayer Meeting 07/01/2022

 

Not sure when the last time this happened, but everyone made it to Jay's this Friday for a little get together: Tim, Ted, Pat, me, and of course, Jay (appropriate since it was his house).

Weather was just right for front porch sitting and catching up.
