Monday 9/28/20

This afternoon Jay, Ted, Pat and I (Tim) were able to celebrate the Monday afternoon tradition, with a very brief appearance from Mark. He had a project going on at his property down the street, his storage building was being relocated. Weather was pleasant and a little warmer than it's been. The usual back and forth banter between us all, sometimes I don't know how we end up taking our conversations down the paths that we do... but it almost always leads to lots of fun and laughs. A rather unexpected treat this afternoon as one of Jay and Marks neighbors stopped by on her way to bring some apple turnovers to another neighbor who wasn't feeling well, we were all commenting on how good they looked and she returned a short while later with four, still warm, apple turnovers which were quickly gobbled up by all! I think we may have guilted her into it... but that's ok !!

Nothing better than Monday afternoons, beer and apple turnovers... Great way to start the week !!

Monday Bag Out 9/21/2020

Cool temps and sunny skies today were enjoyed by Tim, Ted and I. Not much happening except for some more talk about the upcoming camping trip, it's hard to believe that in about five weeks we will all be away from the city of Beckley and out in the woods. Until then we will enjoy Monday's and Friday'!! Great Laughs...Jay

Prayer Meeting 09/18/2020

The weekly prayer meeting was held at Jay's (as usual) and was attended by everyone but Pat - Tim, Jay, Ted, and myself.  As you can tell by the change in wardrobe, the weather has taken a turn toward fall.  Instead of sandals and flip flops, everyone had on their sneakers (tennis shoes for our Appalachian American friends).  Jay was the only hold out still in shorts - everyone else had on jeans.

This week turned out to be a show-and-tell kinda session.  Tim showed up with some relics from his childhood - a cigar box full of old slot cars and some controllers that went along with them.  It was pretty neat looking through all the stuff, including some decals they'd used years ago.  The collection may have been as much as 50 years old.  Good stuff.

There was some talk about the upcoming fall camping trip and a change in dates.  Due to the China virus nixing trick-or-treat just about everywhere, we decided to move the trip closer by one week (usual time).  That week will work better in the long run for all involved.

Always look forward to getting together with my fellow Rivertarians and brothers, and what a way to wrap up the week!

I'd especially like to thank Jay for his artistic leadership this week.  Good call for the photos!

Prayer Meeting/Field Trip 09/04/2020

With the fall camping trip 2 months away, we decided to do a little scouting during the Friday session this week.  Sherwood is once again off the table as our "go to" spot because of maintenance, so we are in the process of narrowing down options.

Ted, Jay, Tim and I took a little road trip to check out the campground at Twin Falls State Park, in Wyoming County.  Tim has spent a couple of weekends there this summer, but we haven't tried it for our annual fall trip.

It's a quick drive there from Beckley (about 40 minutes) and the campground looks nice, complete with electric hookups and a nearby bathhouse (heated!) that will be open year-round.

Driving back we saw a little of the local wildlife, and we hope that continues into early November.

Back home, we hung out at Jay's, had a few cold beverages, and generally laughed our butts off.

What a great way to wind down a week!
