The National River Day celebration is still alive and well, but this blog seems to always be lagging as of late. This is traditionally the time of year where attendance is
"hit-and-miss", because of work, vacations, and other family stuff in
general. At any rate, Jay and I (Mark) were able to make it down this week for the holiday. We had warm(ish) weather with a combination of rain and sunshine (not necessarily at the same time though).
We did build a small fire, but most of the time was spent fishing in the pool right in front of the camp. We both caught several, with Jay catching one nice sized small-mouth. The favorite food seems to still be helgies, but those are getting harder to find. The ones we do find are changing already (soft, yellow, sprouting wings), which seems to be a little early this year. They weren't biting at anything else, and the water level is still too high to get out to the deeper current.
Not too much activity this week, but we did get our regular visit from Freddy. The owners of the camp haven't been around too much lately, and probably won't be, at least not like the last several years, so we'll need to help out more with maintenance. Right now, mowing seems to be the most pressing.
Quiet afternoon on the river.
